  • The Opera House opened in 1929 in grand style. Originally called the B.F. Keith Memorial Theatre, the theatre was designed by the renowned architect Thomas Lamb. It was built by Edward Albee (great-grandfather to the playwright of the same name) in honor of his business partner and friend, B.F. Keith. They were extremely successful vaudeville entrepreneurs operating over 400 theatres in North America, and several theatres in Boston. Before it was restored in 2003/4, the theatre had gone through many changes. Soon after it opened, vaudeville's popularity waned. The heyday of movies arrived and the theatre became a movie palace, a concert hall, and later in life was the home to Sarah Caldwell?s Opera Company of Boston. The theatre was shuttered for almost 13 years, empty and in disrepair, before the restoration began to rescue this architectural gem.
  • Restrooms are located on the upper and lower levels of the theatre. All levels are accessible by elevator.
  • We have concessions on every level of The Opera House. Beverages and snacks are allowed inside the theatre for most performances.
  • Acceptable forms of payment include: Visa(R), MasterCard(R), American Express, and cash. There is no service charge for single tickets when purchased in person at the Box Office.
