The band is comprised of Carl Newman (Zumpano), John Collins (Thee Evaporators), Dan Bejar (Destroyer), cartoonist and filmmaker Blaine Thurier, drummer Fisher Rose and vocalist Neko Case. Despite the fact that the members often found themselves involved in outside projects (Thurier made a film, Case toured with Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds to support her solo album, Bejar continued to record with Destroyer, etc.), they still managed to release Electric Version in 2003 and Twin Cinema in 2005 through the indie label Matador. Their energetic, melodic and hook-laden music is reminiscent of the Zombies and the Kinks, and their albums have been hailed, by many, as power-pop masterpieces. Just listen to songs such as "Letter From an Occupant," "Chump Change," and "Twin Cinema"--and you'll know why.
